Day-to-Day Substitute Teachers
Location: Fell Charter School
Reports to: Principal
Duration: As Needed (on-call)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and flexible Day-to-Day Substitute Elementary Teacher to provide instructional support and classroom management during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting young learners, have strong classroom management skills, and be flexible in responding to various teaching needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow lesson plans left by the regular teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Maintain a positive, engaging, and safe classroom environment.
- Implement age-appropriate teaching strategies that promote the social, emotional, and academic development of elementary students.
- Provide instruction across core subjects, including but not limited to math, reading, science, and social studies.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using established school guidelines.
- Support students’ individual learning needs and adjust teaching strategies as necessary.
- Ensure students’ safety and well-being throughout the school day.
- Communicate with school staff, including teachers, administrators, and support staff, to maintain a collaborative learning environment.
- Keep records of student attendance and behavior.
- Reinforce school policies, routines, and positive expectations in the classroom.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (preferred).
- Prior experience working with elementary-age students (preferred).
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be flexible and handle changing situations.
- Classroom management skills and experience with diverse groups of students.
- Must pass a background check and other required clearances.
Work Conditions:
- Substitute teaching hours will vary, typically between 7:45 AM and 3:10 PM, depending on the school’s schedule.
- The role is on-call and dependent on daily needs.
- Must be able to adapt quickly to new environments and interact professionally with staff and students.
Compensation:
$100 per day

Clearances
Volunteers
Parent/guardian involvement is not just a wonderful addition to a successful school, it is essential. At Fell Charter School, it is also a requirement of all parents/guardians. There are always opportunities for volunteers to help out, be it during lunch periods, Warrior Nights, or over the summer.
All Parents/Guardians are required to volunteer their time for two (2) hours a month. Volunteer programs benefit our school community, and enforce great parent/student and parent/school involvement.
Field Trips
Any Parent/Guardian who attends a field trip as a chaperone must have his/her two clearances and finger prints on file at the school, 24 hours prior to the field trip.
No one will be permitted to attend a field trip without proper clearances; attendance at the pre-field trip meeting is mandatory.
Background Clearance Checks
Per PA law (Act 151, 34), all volunteers must obtain a PA Child Abuse Background Check and a PA Criminal Background Check.
These clearances will be valid at the school for two years from the date of issue, and can be obtained using the links on this page.
