Students should dress in a manner that:
- Supports safety and learning
- Maintains appropriate hygiene
- Respects the educational environment
The following are not permitted:
- Clothing displaying profanity, hate speech, sexually explicit content, violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons
- Clothing that is excessively revealing, short, tight, see-through, or otherwise inappropriate for a K–8 educational environment*
- Clothing or accessories that create a safety hazard
- Attire that substantially disrupts the educational environment
Footwear: For student safety, footwear must fit properly, be securely fastened as designed (e.g., tied, laced, buckled, or secured with Velcro, and have a back to them), and be appropriate for daily school activities, including physical education classes and recess. Flip-flops, Crocs (or similar slip-on foam footwear), footwear with heels greater than one (1) inch, and other shoes that present a safety concern are not permitted. Students should wear seasonally and weather-appropriate footwear. On days when students have PE class, they MUST wear sneakers in order to be permitted to participate and receive credit.
Special accommodations will be made for documented medical, cultural, or religious reasons.
Backpacks: Students may use standard, non-clear backpacks or bags to carry school-related materials. Backpacks and their contents must not contain or display items that are unsafe, inappropriate, disruptive, or prohibited by school policy, and the school administration reserves the right to address any backpack or its contents that creates a safety concern or substantially disrupts the educational environment. Clear, plastic, Fell Charter School backpacks will also be provided at no cost to newly enrolled students and replacements can be purchased from the main office.
School administration retains the authority to determine whether attire is appropriate for the school setting. Students may be required to change clothing or modify attire if it is determined to violate school expectations.
*Students are expected to exercise good judgment when selecting shorts, leggings, and similar attire. Clothing should provide appropriate coverage for a school environment. Leggings, yoga pants, and similar garments should be paired with a top, dress, skirt, or tunic that extends to the upper thigh. “Hoodies” may be worn to school; however, hoods may never be worn inside the building.
