Health & Safety Reminder:

Show your heart some love!

Heart disease begins in childhood: start healthy habits early.

Warning signs of a heart attack: chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, extreme fatigue.

Kids may show risk factors: obesity, poor diet, low activity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes.

Build healthy habits at home: active play, balanced meals, limited sugary drinks.

Know your family history: share it with your doctors.

Chocolate!

Healthy chocolate has antioxidants that promote brain & heart health and provides magnesium, iron and fiber.
Look for:

  • Cacao as 1st ingredient.
  • Aim for 70% or more cacao.
  • Minimal additives such as hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup.
  • Moderation is key (40-50g/day)

Move It!:

Raise that heartbeat.

Physical activity keeps the heart strong, helps with weight control and may prevent artery damage from high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Review these tips to get started with aerobic exercises that will get your heart pumping.

What really matters?

The most important thing you can do for your heart is improve your emotional health.

Research has shown that feeling like we matter – feeling we are noticed, appreciated and relied on by others- helps us feel more connected and leads to improved sense of well being – something that benefits our heart health more than anything else!
