Health Reminder:
Help for a stuffy nose from a cold.
- Nasal saline drops/sprays/mists can be used several times/day.
- Humidifier/vaporizer increases humidity (clean as directed).
- Steam up the bathroom by running the hot shower and sit in the room with your child.
- Elevate the head of the bed.
- Drink water to thin mucus.
- Dab Vasoline or shea butter under the nostrils to prevent irritation.
Move It!
It’s cold: bundle up & go outside.
Your immune system will thank you for it. Here are tips to keep you safe and comfy:
Dress Right: 3 layer rule- base (moisture wicking/non cotton; middle (insulating wool/fleece/down); outer (wind/waterproof).
Stay hydrated: Cold blunts thirst, drink water before and after being outdoors.
Know signs of cold injury: frostbite (gray, pale or waxy skin; tingling, burning, numbness). Hypothermia (uncontrolled shivering, slurred speech, confusion, extreme fatigue).
Don’t go to extremes: Polar Bear Plunge

Making a Change
Here are some tips to make those New Year’s resolutions stick:
Start small/Be specific (I will walk 10 min. after dinner 5 days/week); Link new habits to existing routines (after pouring coffee, I will write a gratitude note, during commercials I will stretch); Make it a friendly competition or be accountable to someone (this increases follow-through); Pair the activity with something you like (watch your guilty pleasure TV series while walking on the treadmill).
Good luck and Happy New Year!
