Brushing & flossing prevents plaque (germ) buildup, cavities and gum disease.
Rule of 2s: brush for 2 minutes twice a day (morning and night).
When teeth touch, start flossing daily.
Get regular check-ups – every 6 months
Avoid 2nd hand smoke – ↑ cavity risk.
Limit sugary drinks (soda, juice, sports drinks, flavored milks and sugary snacks, especially sticky candy
Change toothbrush every 2-3 months.
Contact dentist for: discoloration, hot/cold sensitivity, bleeding gums, bad breath.
Nutrition Nugget: Eat for your Teeth
Calcium: Strengthens & repairs enamel. Comes from dairy products, beans, fortified foods & leafy greens.
Vitamin D: ↑Calcium absorption. Get it from sunshine, fatty fish, eggs & fortified dairy.
Vitamin C: promotes gum health. Citrus fruit, broccoli, kale, strawberries & peppers.
Limit sugary foods & drinks which increase bacteria, acid & cavities.
