Diabetes Awareness:

Insulin: brings sugar from blood into cells for energy

  • Type 1: little or no insulin produced by body; no cure or ability to prevent
  • Type 2: insulin produced by body is not working; Delay or prevent through physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight.

Diabetes damages heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves & circulatory system. Signs: ↑thirst/urination/appetite; dehydration; blurred vision; weight loss; nausea/vomiting/stomach pain; tired, mood changes. Contact your doctor if you notice these early warning signs!

Nutrition Nugget

Gobble up the pumpkin & other squashes!

  • vitamin A and C: fights off colds
  • complex carbohydrates give steady energy
  • beta-carotene, supports eye health and good vision.
  • fiber and potassium, great for heart and gut health

Roast them, blend into soups, stir into pasta sauce, or even mix into muffins.

Move It!

Start a new Thanksgiving tradition: Turkey Trot!

Help offset the Thanksgiving meal calories by participating in a local organized Turkey Trot run/walk. If there isn’t one near you, gather your family, neighbors and friends and have an informal one of your own. Set a course, start your timers and give out fun medals or prizes.

  • Reduces stress and anxiety: Encourages empathy and gratitude, which can improve mood and overall emotional well-being.
